You may have heard me putting together a commune before.
When I was much younger, my Dad read us a book, "The Alliance" by Gerald Lund. It was probably the first dystopian novel that I was introduced to and profoundly affected my ideas of the future. The book begins with a small commune tucked in former Star Valley, Wyoming after a nuclear holocaust. Previous to the holocaust, the leaders of the community foresee the future and gather together individuals and families of like minds and necessary skills for survival.
As I go through life, I gather people to my mental commune.
Today it occurred to me that I might be thinking about it all wrong.
I was thinking about a friend's father-in-law who had just died.
I was thinking about a dear friend who has hoed a long row and every time I see her in the temple, I cry tears of joy.
What if the commune I have been building in my head all these years isn't so much about survival in a post apocalyptic world as it is a group of like minded people that will get to meet up in a better place-- a commune if you will. A community of Saints.
I think I like that idea better.
