In it I am told to develop the talents that I find enjoyable in my life. The paragraph it is in is about building my testimony. The one after is about service. Using my fine motor skills to create is one of my joys. I love words and making them fit together. I love drawing and used to be quite good. I love to make things-- if my hands aren't busy, they become fidgety.
So, it came as a surprise to me when this dawned on my brain: http://danjillplusfive.blogspot.com/2014/10/quaking-leaves.html
This realization that my explosive hunger for family history is being satiated by something that seemed so crazy at the time.
I did not want to go to Institute this morning. After having 7 extra people in my house all weekend, I kind of took Monday and Tuesday off to recuperate. Laundry needs doing. I need to finish Alison's and Heidi's costumes for Halloween. I am feeling the crush of time spent vacationing from the vacation. I needed to go, so I went.
Today we read D&C 82:17-19, in reference to the Law of Consecration.
17 And you are to be equal, or in other words, you are to have equal claims on the properties, for the benefit of managing the concerns of your stewardships, every man according to his wants and his needs, inasmuch as his wants are just—
18 And all this for the benefit of the church of the living God, that every man may improve upon his talent, that every man may gain other talents, yea, even an hundred fold, to be cast into the Lord’s storehouse, to become the common property of the whole church—
19 Every man seeking the interest of his neighbor, and doing all things with an eye single to the glory of God.
There was a sudden and unexpected "whumpf!" feeling that hit me, almost making me collapse. "All this for the benefit of the church of the living God, that every man may improve upon his talent... to be cast into the Lord's storehouse, to become the common property of the whole church--"
What am I doing in all of my crazy family history, if not using the talents that were developed for the benefit of the kingdom of God? I knew it, but sometimes we get amazing confirmations of our knowledge.
That's what happened in institute today that I would have missed without going.
